Tier 1 Citizenship

Post by Kazza » Fri Feb 29, 2008 7:01 pm

Hello all

I've read the Green Paper which I thought stated Highly Skilled Migrants no longer have to have Indefinite Leave to Remain to get UK citizenship. Can anyone confirm this or know when this part of the new procedures will begin???

Hi Karen:

I think you're talking about the new "probationary citizenship" green paper. That hasn't been implemented yet. When it is, if it doesn't change, then it will mean 5 years of temp citizenship, plus 1 year of "probation" and then naturalisation.. Which really means that it's still 6 years to naturalise for HSMP..

So even though you won't need ILR first, it will require a year of probationary citizenship instead. Which means that you won't have all the rights for that year that you'd have with ILR. :?
