EC - Maintenance Fund query

Post by morgoth » Sat May 10, 2008 4:44 am

I have applied for my HSMP and avaiting the result. I have learned that I need to have the maintenance fund 3 months prior to EC application.

Would appreciate if someone can clarify on the following

1) I will be applying for myself and 2 dependents ( wife and son ). What is the maintenance fund i need to show for Dependents
£1600 + £800 or £1600 + £1600.

2) My son is 2 years old and does not have any bank account.
- Do I need to have an account for him ( as minor )
- Can the amount be split between mine and my wife's accounts

3) Will it be a problem if my father in law transfers the amount required for my wife and son to her account ( and we keep it that way for 3 months )

Thanks

I am still confused about maintenance funds

Post by morgoth » Wed Jun 04, 2008 8:12 pm

Even though i have got my HSMP approval, I believe I still need to show the maintenance funds as per Tier 1, so would appreciate if someone can clarify on the above.

Also i have got the required amount tranferred to my wife's account from my father in law's account.

Would like to confirm if I need to produce a gift certificate.

morgoth can u please tell more about ur appl. everybody applying from UK and india regardless of W or W/O HSMP approval letter have to qualify for maintenance funds. If u r in UK, you need to show £800 at time of application. If in India, u need to show equivalent amount in ur account for each day for past 3 months.

Hope it helps

You will need to get a Gift deed made which should clearly say that the sum being transferred to you is for you to use at your own will and the person who has transferred the amount irrevocably transfers all the rights, benefits etc. with regards to the gifted amount.

If the money has been transferred in your spouse's name then you should get a letter from her too - that she will be allowing you to use the same towards supporting yourself and her/other dependents during your initial stay in UK.

Additionally, this money should sit in your account for atleast 3 months before you make an application (I am assuming that you are applying from India)
