Although I saw a thread on this forum, which contained an email from BHC/VFS which said that personal loans are acceptable as maintenance funds proof, but I would not suggest you to rely on that. I suggest you do the following:
Email your queries(related to fixed deposits, personal loans as maintenance funds) to
Chennai.visaenquiry@fco.gov.uk,
bombay.visaenquiries@fco.gov.uk,
visqry.newdelhi@fco.gov.uk. If you get a positive reply by email (saying that above two are acceptable as proof of maintenance), you can attach that email reply with your application.
Their replies are really fast (within a day or two), and this way your application would be safe as you have taken steps as suggested by them.
The rate of change of rules and interpretation is very fast, and your safest bet is to attach (hopefully positive) email replies from BHC with your application. (Particularly for controversial documents like Fixed Deposits, Personal Loans).
