WP -> Tier 1, when can I actually start work?

Post by Boogie » Sat Aug 16, 2008 10:24 am

Hi,

I've been reading these forums and people talk about getting approval and then later on getting their passport back stamped.

When can I actually start work if my application is approved. Is it when I get an approval letter or do I need to wait for my passport?

Thanks in advance,
Boogie

Employers have to ensure that those joining them to work need to have the correct documentation to ensure that they do indeed have a right to work in the UK. Against that background I don't think the approval letter is sufficient for the purpose. Accordingly I think you need to wait until your passport arrives, complete with its Tier 1 (General) sticker.

People used to get approval letters for HSMP applications and then used to send their passports for EC/LTR. In Tier 1 there is no concept of approval letter coming before your passport(s) - both will arrive from UKBA together.
