Salary received through cheque

Post by bossvikas » Sat Jan 10, 2009 7:26 pm

Hi
I joined a new company about 3 months back. In the first month, I received my salary through cheque since the company's systems were not updated with the bank account. Hence in the bank statement the entry for the salary credit is simply occurring as 'Cheque XYZ' instead of what appears normally with a salary credit i.e. 'Salary for the month of XYZ'.

Can this be a problem? If so, can I explain about it in the covering letter?
Do I need to produce any other documents for that month apart from the salary slip and the bank statement - both stamped and signed?

Thanks in advance
Vikas

I did hear some stories during HSMP days that caseworkers in India rejected application saying that the bank statements did not show "salary from xxx co" etc.,although the amounts matched with the net Salary shown in the Salary Slips. However, no one has reported rejections on these grounds recently.

If you think you can get it, a letter from the employer showing your monthly gross salary, tax, other deductions and net salary + mode of salary payment (i.e. by cheque/credit to Salary A/c no.@@@@) would be really helpful. If not then you can highlight in your cover letter that the Salary for the months of xx and xx were paid by cheque and hope for the best.

Well, This is exactly similiar to my case where I joined my current employer in Jan and the first salary was paid in cheque since bank account was not yet opened. I have taken a letter from my employer stating for each month over the one year the gross salary, net salary, date of credit to bank account and mode of payment expaining wherever necessary. Also I have explained things in the cover letter as well. However my status is still awaiting as I had applied only a week back.

Hey Thanks Guys
Unfortunately, I dont think I can procure the letter from my current organization. I think I will just want to explain about it in the covering letter and hope for the best. In any case, the current guidance does not mention any such requirement. Plus people who work on contract are paid via cheque itself - so I dont understand why should there be a problem. In fact, quoting the guidance notes:

"We consider that payslips and letters from an employer are from the same source and an applicant should therefore not provide a combination of these two types of document."

So I hope I dont really need the letter.

Cheers
