From HSMP to Permanent Resident

Post by harish080 » Wed Apr 08, 2009 3:16 pm

Hello all,

I came to UK in Jan'03 on a student visa and later I got HSMP in Dec'05. Heard that we now can apply for a PR after being in HSMP status for 4 years. So I guess I am eligible to apply for Dec'09. If that is the case, what Financial documents do I need to submit. I am a contractor and I dont have a regular payslips. I asked few other guys and some mentioned that we need to submit our payslips, bank statemnts from last 1 year, and few other said its 6 months and some said 3 months would do. Can anyone pls mention correctly abt the Financial docs.

Many Thanks
Harish.

im a month behind you, and i plan on submitting stuff for all 4 years to show i have been economically active.

Guess it depends if youre through umbrella coy (employed) or your own limited company (self employed)

There's plenty of stuff to show:
P60s from your limited/umbrella company (or P45s if left one prior to 6 april of a certain year)
Dividend vouchers if being paid by dividends
Invoices to agents
Remittance advices from agents
Your bank statements
Your limited companies bank statements
Umbrella company reconciliation of salary/dividends they've paid you
Your limited company accounts

Im sure theres plenty more

You must be joking....I haven't had even one that you have mentioned. I am working through a Umbrella company and the only stuff I had with me is my payslips and bank statements. Are you sure we need all the stuff you mentioned???? and also for past how many years??? Also heard that we need to maintain the bank balance of 1100 pounds for the last three months just before filing our application. Is that true ????

Anyway thks for the reply and your answer really came to me as a shock as your name suggests.

i listed all the stuff *i* will submit, as you didnt say much about your situation and over the past 4 years i have been:

1) an employee of a company,
2) contracting as employee through umbrella company,
3) contracting through my own company.

I forgot to mention contracts in my previous post.

Your umbrella company (or their accountant) will have issued you with P60 at end of each year. If they havent, i'd be chasing them up for it now. Have you been doing personal tax returns?

Are you paid dividends through the umbrella company?

The reconciliation from the umbrella company, was just a letter and spreadsheet from the umbrella company stating my relationship to the company and summarising all salary and dividend payments to me. The spreadsheet allows them to quickly correlate the monthly payslips i received from the umbrella company, against my bank statement for the same month.

no offence taken - just felt the need to explain why i had listed so much stuff, which wont be relevant to everyone. It will be for me, because i havent just been contracting thru an umbrella company. :)

im just submitting the same stuff that i would have had to submit for a HSMP extension, to prove my economic activity.

the umbrella company i used had lots of HSMP people on their books, so all i had to do was ask to get stamped dividend vouchers, payslips, reconciliation statement etc.

you've got 8 months to get it sorted out, so dont panic yet.
I'd start getting those P60s now though, cause i tried to get a copy recently for an earlier year - and the company doesnt have the paper to print them anymore for that year.

Would help if u provided more details about how the umbrella company is paying you, so other people can comment on exact list of doco YOU need.
i.e. do your payslips mention dividends, or it is simply just salary ?

Well, I wont be paid any dividends, its just the salary that I am being paid monthly. My intension was to submit my payslips, bank statements for last 6 months before filing my app. i.e., starting from May'09 if I run my payroll for 32k till Oct'09 that should do. This is what I submitted when I filed for my HSMP too and also for the extension. I never submitted any P60 forms and I suppose I need not this time too. Its just my assumption. But if they have mentioned anywhere that we need to submit the P60's then probably I need to start working on them from now.
