SWITCHING: Student Dependant to Tier 1 (General)

hello there,
Any knowldege reg this matter:
(plz do not direct me to Switching section on UKBA site, which I have already read)

My last entry to Uk was as International student in March 2006, then I became International student dependant in February 2008,

SINCE MY LAST ENTRY WAS STUDENT IN UK ON THIS BASIS, CAN I MAKE IN COUNTRY APPLICATION TO SWITCH TO TIER 1 (GENERAL).? OR BACK TO TIER 4 (GENERAL)?
