Tier-1 from USA and planning to travel with family

Post by moving to uk » Sat Mar 13, 2010 5:05 am

I am in US now and planning to move to UK first time on Tier-1 visa with my wife and 18 mo.old daughter around MAY 2010.
My questions are:
1.What are the questions asked at the port of entry(like accomodation details.insurance, job ...)

2.I would like to know how and where can i get private insurance for my child(priority) coz we both (me n my wife) will be looking for jobs once we land UK.We both are working here in USA.Anybody applied for additional insurance please guide us.I am not sure if we are able to register with NHS?

3.Also i would like to get an idea about the places to stay near london city. Those which are nice, close to public transportation, kid friendly and safe with some indian stores around. Please help me regarding this....Also helpful if a price range for these areas is included in the post.

4.Also my dependants are planning to stay in UK initially for 2 weeks and travel to india for some family get together and return in a month or so. Is it a good idea or they can be questioned( about main applicants job details, bank stmnts, employer letter, tenancy agreement etc.) while at the Port of entry by immigration officers, since i am not sure if i can get job by then? Can someone share the similar experience?

Thanks in advance to everyone.

It is not totally clear, have the visas already been issued?

And when you refer to child insurance, are you talking about child care? You don't say how old the child is, but as you refer to both you and your wife working, are you talking about child care while both of you work? How old is the child?

Do you know exactly where you and your wife will be working? If so, that is surely the starting point when deciding where to live?

NHS? On Tier 1, you and all your family will be eligible.

Thanks John for the response.Yes the visas have been issued to us.

I am talking about the Health insurance especially for my child(for her immunization, visits...).I already mentioned above she is 18 months old.
Also yes we have to look for child care or day care coz we have to get her enrolled.

thanks

We will be looking for jobs once we reach UK. I heard there is a BANK street in London city similar to Wall Street in NewYork. We both are in IT Banking sector.Probably chances are we will be looking jobs in those areas .

I have a doubt. What is the process for registering to NHS as soon as we reach UK.What docs are required? Is Job requirement a must?
