Working abroad for an International Organisation

Post by melo75 » Fri Aug 20, 2010 10:54 am

Hi all,

I have a question on behalf of a friend of mine who works abroad for one of the UN related agencies.

1. Can she apply for Tier1 and continue working abroad for that organisation?
2. Also after 5 years, can she apply for settlement in the UK if she has worked all of the 5 years abroad for that international organisation?

I read somewhere that if you are in the service of an international organisation of which the United Kingdom is a member the "physical presence" requirement is waved, but I can not find that UKBA document again.

Thanks
M

1. Yes, if he continues to be paid in the UK and contribute to the UK economy.
2. Read Annexure B: The residence requirements.

Thank you sushdmehta. Actually she is being paid in the country where the international organisation is based. Does that mean she can not apply for Tier 1 then ILR?

Living abroad, working abroad, paid abroad - then what's the point of Tier 1?

The purpose of Tier 1 (General) is to allow visa nationals to live and work in the UK and and contribute to UK's economy. And not to use it as a visitor visa to enable people working and living abroad to visit UK as they wish or claim settlement later on the basis of a Tier 1 stamp in their passport without having lived in the UK at all.
