Cancellation of Tier 1 / Issue Business Visa

Post by VRV » Wed Sep 29, 2010 3:49 pm

Hello All -

Please provide your insight on the following.

I am a contractual employee of a UK company, on a secondment transfer with the parent company in Germany for 2 years between Sep 2009 and Aug 2011.

Whilst I maintain a UK Tier 1 Work Permit (valid from Sep 2006 to Sep 2008 as HSMP, and Aug 2008 to Sep 2011 as Tier 1 General), I also have a Germany Work Permit.

Potentially I could resign from the UK company and obtain contractual employment with a firm in Germany. In which case, for subsequent travel to the UK for business purposes, would I not have to apply with the British Embassy in Germany to cancel my Tier 1 General and issue a Business Visa?

I seem to think I cannot travel to the UK with the Tier 1 General - due to the fact that I do not hold employment (or intend to hold employment) in the UK, do not have residence in the UK, and the purpose of the travel is business.

As anyone done similarly before? I am sure.

Your insight would help.

Yes. Tier 1 (General) is for living and working in the UK, and not meant to be used for making business / personal visits to the UK when living and working outside the UK.
