maintenance for initial applicant

hai friends.

my friend has a student visa. his student visa period is from sep24 2009-nov3 2010.he got the results and he applied for the psw on nov 1.for one month he has been to india(sep10 - oct 21).so what is the maintenace fee he have to show when he applies for psw.is the visa period must be more than 12 months or the person have to be in uk for more than 12 months. i have to know whether he have to show 1600 or 800.
