Tier 1 General Extension : Self Employed or II employment?

Tier 1 General Extension : Self Employed or II employment?

I am due for extension in the next 6 months. I have 2 options as I may not get the expected level of earnnings.

Shall I go for Self Employment or Second employment? Which one is less risky? Kindly reply (I heard from some friends that Self Employed is a bit risky as the queries are raised on that).
