Extension possible if I return back UK after 6 month

HI All,

I am on Tier 1 Visa and my visa expires on Dec 31st 2011, which need to extend.

I got contract opportunity in Switzerland for 6 months and wondering is it fine if I go to Swizerland and come back and apply in UK for extension? Please advise.
