Tier 1 (General) & dependant visa renewal

Post by rashmijoshi85 » Fri May 06, 2011 9:10 am

Hi there,

I have just moved to the country and I am on tier 1 dependant visa. My visa expires next year in May. Could somebody help me with how the renewal process works? I have been applying for jobs but the response I get is that my visa should be valid for at least 5 years (quite strange though).

My husbands visa expires in May 2012 as well and he needs to apply for British citizenship. Can someone please help me how we could go about with both our applications? How long does the process take?

Thank you,

1. Your husband cannot apply for British citizenship without holding settled status for at least 12 months.
2. Apply for extension at the same time as your husband, when it is due.
3. If your husband wishes to apply for extension earlier than when it is due (in an effort that you get a 3 year leave to help you in your job search prospects), then you should read this topic.

Thanks shushdmehta, However I need some more explanation on the same.

By settled status do you mean permanent residency for 12 months and then British citizen ship. and Since my husband wont be on tier 1 visa, what happens to my visa if he applies for PR? At the moment I am on his dependant visa. So what visa will I apply for?

Thanks,
Rashmi

1. When did you enter UK as a dependant? Did you live in the UK before entering UK as dependant or was this your first time travel to UK?
2. When will your husband qualify for settlement?

The first time I entered UK was on the 11th of March 2011. My Visa is valid from 22nd feb 2011 to may 2012.

& My husband completes 5 years in UK in May 2012.

Assuming your husband will qualify for settlement in May 2012, you'll need to apply for leave as spouse of settled person.
