Indian Tourist Visa

Post by Max456 » Mon Oct 28, 2013 8:53 pm

Hi folks,
I searched the forum but can’t seem to find the answers I’m looking for so I apologise in advance for it being long winded and also apologise if these questions have already been asked and answered.

The last time I applied for a visa it was the old method of taking application form to Birmingham in the morning, handing in said form with passport then collecting passport with visa in the afternoon. This has changed to an online application.

I have the following questions and would be grateful of any help.
My wife has just got her UK passport. Her Indian passport has been surrendered, but one of the questions on the online application is “Have you ever visited India?”. She did do so a few years ago on the Indian passport but never on the UK passport. Do we put Yes or No?

I need visa’s for 2 of my children who are both under 16. On the web site it states the following is required :
A copy of the child’s birth certificate showing both the parents’ names.
Consent letter addressed to the HCI, London OR its respective consulates signed by both the parents.
Photocopy of Parent’s passports along with the copy of their current Indian Visa, if already holding one. If parents are Indian citizens, copy of the resident status in the UK would be required.
Question is. Do we need all these documentation? And if so what do we write in the Consent letter?

How does the online process work? For example is I filled in the online form on Tuesday 29th after office closing hours, when am I likely to get an appointment in Birmingham? And lastly would I get the visa on the same day as the appointment or would I have to make a return journey?

Regards
Max

Ok, so for "have you travelled to india in past", I said NO as we've travelled to india in the past on indian passport, not on visa.

As for documentation for minor kids, yes parents passports required.
I don't think consent letter is required, it is needed of the minor kid is travelling alone or with someone other than parents.

BUT, I will provide the consent letter anyway - sample here -

Hi Tushar,

Same query.. I am also saying NO as I have travelled to india in the past on indian passport, but not on visa.

I have another question if you could help

I am Indian origin and recently become British citizen by Naturalisation. I have applied for my OCI but it’s taking time so I am thinking of applying for visitor visa.
My parents are staying in India and I do visit them every year, till now I have visited them on Indian passport but now I have British passport and I have already cancelled by Indian passport, my question is do i need any kind of document from my parents? I will be staying with them during my visit. My cancelled Indian passport actually have the same address of India.

No, you don't need any docs from your parents as far as I can tell.
We applied last Friday and haven't provided any docs from our parents even though we stay with them.
In the form (when you fill online), there is optional info you can fill about where you will be staying - you could add your parents address here.

Hi Tushar,

Happy Diwali !! Thank you for the reply.

I have an appointment tomorrow.

Not sure if you have noticed this but when I filled up the form online there was no section to give the address in India where I will be staying but when you print the form that particular section comes as blank so can I write the address on the form using black pen. I tried this twice but the same thing so just to prove vfs I have taken the screenshot of the form while filling up.

So I gave my father's name and address as a reference in India.

thanks

Happy Diwali to you too.
I think you get the option to put the details depending on the browser you use.
I used firefox and I got the option to fill in the details of where I will be staying. But like I said, that's optional info - so I didn't fill that even though I could.
