awaiting Citizenship approval - can I accept work abroad

Post by lchow » Tue Aug 24, 2004 3:21 pm

I have submitted the application for Citizenship in May this year. (Am a British National Overseas passport holder and have received ILR for one year).

I have got confirmation from the HO that they have received the application and the fee. While waiting for the final approval, in the meantime a head hunter approached me with an opportunity to work on a project overseas for a year. If I take that will it affect my application?

Please advice. Thanks.

There is a requirement that you 'intend to make the UK your main home' where an application for British Citizenship is not on the basis of marriage to a British Citizen. IMHO the burden of proof on this one is on the HO so I think you should be o.k. - is the employer a British Company?

Thanks for the advice. The company is the overseas office of a UK company, but technically my fee will be paid directly by the overseas office and I have to be based over there for a year if I take up the post.

Work has been increasingly mobile these days but I understand there are certain requirement I need to comply when applying for citizenship.

Will certainly seek further advice before I make any move.

Thanks so much.
