What can I do? Please help!!

Post by Jadley » Sat Oct 29, 2016 3:02 am

Hi everyone, I'm a British citizen married to a Thai women about 7 years ago and she naturalised as British citizen through marriage. About 3 years back she suddenly left the UK and disappeared as I had no idea of her whereabout. Recently I have found out through a mutual friend that she secretly moved to Canada and got a Canadian green card by marrying to a Canadian citizen while she is still married to me! Clearly she has committed bigamy by marrying to a Canadian man while we are still married (we were never divorced for all these time she was gone).

So can I report to the home office on her about the bigamy so that the HO would strip her off British citizenship? What legal options do I have? Please help!

Thank you
Jay

Your reporting makes no difference to her citizenship as she did not commit any offense before obtaining citizenship. The bigamy as you alleged was committed after citizenship has been obtained.

She may have even got a divorce in Canada. We just don't know.

Understood she committed bigamy after obtained UK citizenship but wouldn't the HO consider the fact that her intent for marrying me back then was also just to obtain citizenship rather than genuinely marrying me??

Also how can she get a divorce in Canada for a marriage took place in the U.K.?

A divorce doesn't necessarily have to take place in the same country as the marriage.

If you believe she only married you to obtain British citizenship, why did she stay around for 4 years?

Because she needed to stay married to me for at least 3 years in order to be natrulized as British citizen

Are there any other ways that I can report her? Will the Home Office do anything about it?

No good. Once she acquired ILR (even before citizenship), she is no longer your dependent and free to make her own immigration journey.

You really need to forget about this woman and move on with your life. You eagerness for vengeance has the potential to damage you more than her.

She has probably settled in Canada and getting on with her life, and probably working on Canada Citizenship, whiles you are trying to find a way to get her to lose her British Citizenship, which as i discussed earlier, does not appear to have been fraudulently obtained.
