No Time LImit since 1974, next step?

Post by peterjoejones » Mon Jun 25, 2018 6:37 pm

Hi Anyone, s

I am new to this blog, but need some help or general advice. I came to UK in 1973 (October) and have been here ever since. My Guyanese passport has "there is at present no time limit on the holders stay in the UK". I have used that since 1974. Now, i am thinking i should just go ahead and get a British passport. do i need to first get an ILR or ILE or NTL Biometric, or should i apply for british passport via naturalisation straight? Thoughts please?

Provided that you have not been stamped in with a visit or any other limited visa in any other subsequent passport, you should be able to apply for British citizenship directly.

No visa in any other British passport. i went to Guyana in the 90s for 2 months holiday and came back with my same NTL stamp. no issues. By the way, will I have to do a Life in UK test?

Sorry, I mean, No visa in any other renewed Guyanese passport. I went to Guyana in the 90s for 2 months holiday and came back with my same NTL stamp. no issues. By the way, will I have to do a Life in UK test?

Yes you require the LIUK test. Not sure if you require English B1 or equivalent.

Thanks guys, also Secret.Simon, or anyone else, is there a gov.uk link that specifically says that I do not need to do the ILR biometric etc. i just dont want to go ahead and apply directly for a british passport only to be windrushed (if you know what i mean). Besides, laws change like evrytime, so i want to make sure it says in black and white that i can apply for passport if i have no time limit.
Anyone?

You need to apply for British citizenship on form AN before you can get a British passport, two separate processes.
