Non visa, Brazil visitor coming to UK

Post by mikishokage » Tue Mar 05, 2019 11:34 am

Good day to you all,
I am writing in conclusion to the problem I have with lack of information and hoping someone can help me out.
So I invited my friend from Brazil to come visit me in the UK. Brazil as it currently stands is non-visa country to enter. But, on the government website gov.uk it is stated that he should bring the same documents with him as he would apply for visitors visa with him. His English is very poo and he is afraid that he would be found unreliable. The main reason is to see me and have a good time, as he is not working at the moment. He does not posses many funds, so I would have to become his sponsor for the duration of these 5 months. I am working full contract for almost a year now and have standard salary of 15k a year. Since next month it would be 18k. I only pay rent and have no children or any other dependants. I will buy him tickets to and from UK before entry. So for example he would visit in april and in september leave, and he would have both these tickets on him upon entry. I do not even know if they going to ask for additional documents as I have not found anything on this particular subject on the internet, or have not gone through this process myself, dont have any friends who can confirm, and thus are my next questions:
1. Is there interpreter available at the border?
2. How much do I have to earn to provide financial support as a sponsor for both of us?
3. Can he be rejected entry having return tickets?
4. What other criteria except the ones mentioned above ?

Thanks in advance for quick and accurate responses.
Have a great
Kind Regards

Non visa nationals are essentially fee free visas granted at the point of entry to the UK. The rules are not different to those that have to apply for a visit visa pre entry. Hence the Gov.UK site says bring the documents to support your case.

The issues your friend will have:

Length of stay - 5 months and totally reliant on you for the entire period. This will ring alarm bells and to be blunt is just not credible.

Unemployed and no funds - again that will add to the alarm bells. People without funds and no job in their home country points to a very good reason not to return. It also points to a high likelihood of engaging in illegal working.

Without being unkind you salary is not particularly high which again points to you struggling to afford to support the individual and therefore another reason to believe that your friend may engage in illegal working.

The accommodation you are in - guessing it is a house of multiple occupation- have you got your landlords permission for the individual to stay... if not then that will kill it off completely.

So all in all as a story unfolding at the border it is just not credible and is likely to be result in a refusal.

I think there is more to this story... are you romantically linked to this person, have you met before and where / when?

Hello, thanks for quick response.
I will try to adress your every concern in order.

Length of stay: It is yet unknown how long will he stay, as he has university to attend to. Yes he is on a 3- year undergraduate course, full-time, and has little brake in July and longer one in december. I did not specify how long he will be coming for, i wrote 5 months because 6 is the maximum stay and I want to make it possible for him to visit, as full 6 months would again raise suspicion at the border. I am not sure yet, that is why i wrote 5 months. I do not know if it matters for how many months he would stay as every month my salary would look exactly the same. As we talk almost every day I mentioned if he has some savings, and he said he does. But compared to what I have saved in my bank account which is 2.5k pounds is not much at all. He is leading a project at the university which pays only 600 reais per month, which allows him to buy stuff for himself and live there, although with parents he pays for his own food etc. I told him to start saving some more money, and he agreed to not throw away for stupid things, to have something to show at the border.

Unemployed and no funds: Look above. He is a student, also working on a patent project that pays little money, thus we are concern about the specific amount needed for both of us. Nowhere i looked is specified exactly how much UK thinks it should be.
Yes my salary is not great, but currently promoted to earn more- 18k per year, starting this month. I have no idea how much is needed, not a single person can tell me the exact amount.

The accomodation: I am living in a 2 bedroom apartment with my friend, who is legally here on the same grounds as I am. We rent it from the agency. I am hoping I would be able to talk to them, once I have all the information, and getting written agreement of him staying these months, as our relation is perfect, we pay rent on time and had no problems or violations since we moved in.

There is no romantic relation as we are both straight men. Believe it or not, I am a really nice guy who can do a lot for those i call my friends, and I do not have a lot of them, as I believe in quality, not quantity. About romantic relations, I am currently in contact with one of my brazilian friend cousins, and things are starting slowly to progress, but I have no idea how it will turn out, thus my only concern now is getting him ready for a visit, for him to understand how it works and what he might expect, prepare him to speak to a border agent, but so far we are in the dark.

It is not a hoax, I am just asking for advice about what might he expect at the border and if in our situation he will get refused entry and why.

Hope that clears some things, any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask, I want to be 200% sure before I act.
Thanks again for quick response,
With Regards
