Transfer of Ancestry visa to BRP

Post by juliachantal » Tue Apr 30, 2019 6:48 pm

So I am a Kiwi living and working in England on a YMS Ancestry Visa which will expire in October. My NZL passport is due to expire at the end of June, which contains my ancestry visa, and I have just applied to renew it. It will take approximately two weeks to arrive to me in England but as of now the passport I hold containing my visa is no longer classed as current so here my questions begin.

1) Is my Visa still valid when leaving and re-entering the UK if I carry both my old passport with the visa and my new one without the visa? I have searched and searched and found mixed answers but most suggest that I must replace it with a biometrics permit thing.

2) Then if I do apply to replace it with the BRP, it will take 8 weeks, if I leave the country and try to re-enter within this time frame will I talk to everything up and my visa is officially invalid?

Also I would love to speak to anyone that has applied for Visa extensions and what not because I am finding it all very confusing, please and thank you!!

There is no such 'YMS Ancestry visa'. It is either a Tier 5 YMS or an Ancestry Visa.

You can travel with both passports. Your passport expiring doesn't invalidate your visa.

What visa extension?? Presumably your Ancestry visa is a 5 year one after which you will apply for ILR.

Thanks for your help.

I'm looking to apply for an extension because I spent more than 180 days out of the country at one time so am not eligible for the ILR

FLR(IR) is the form and it is another 5 year visa. IHS payable is £2000 plus the visa fee.

How many days absence is it and what dates? What date would you qualify to apply for ILR?

I was away from the UK end of October 2015 until June 2016.

Are you able to split the absence across two 12 month periods counting backwards from date you would qualify for ILR?
