Changing the nationality in my ILR

Post by ikh » Sun Dec 25, 2022 7:49 pm

Hi All,
I have my ILR registered on a passport and nationality that I am now giving up. Does anyone know the process of changing the passport my ILR is tight to?
I am trying to doo this through various home office links, but most of the applications require super detailed information that I didn't even need to present for my ILR, like me being on the council tax for the previous seven years.
Your help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
Irene

you have it as BRP, not a passport stamp, right?

if yes, have you considered this link?

ILR is a status granted to individuals. Such status is not tied to your nationality. You may acquire/renounce any other nationality. You do not need to do anything. ILR is lost if you acquire the British citizenship

Many thanks for coming back to me.

I was away and when coming back to the UK, I handed over to the border officer my ILR card and my second passport. But the officer checked the country of origin on my ILR and told me that I could only pass the border with this ILR and the passport it is registered with.

Given I will not have the registered passport very soon, I am worried I will have trouble entering the country.

What would be the best way to deal with this situation?

Thanks again!

I noticed that you are giving up your previous nationality and acquiring a new one. In that case, the border staff were correct that you need to apply for a new BRP

Many thanks, my initial question was how to go about it? I didn't find any specific forms related to the change of nationality. Any advise please?

I'd suggest this one still?

You must apply for a new BRP straight away if any of these things change:

nationality
