Citizenship ceremony waiting time

Post by mads » Tue Apr 07, 2009 9:12 am

I have received my letter from home office to say that my application for naturalisation has been successful.
When I rang my local council the first available ceremony date is a week before my 3months window to attend the ceremony is closed. Is there anything I can do to get it pushed forward? i am just conscious that if I miss it (who knows what will happen in the future) I will have to reapply and pay the full fee again.
Thank you
Mads

mads, you can have a private ceremony. It is quite expensive (£140 in Southwark for example), but they will give you the time convenient for you and usually just a few days away.

Will there be an option to check with different council offices to accommodate you for ceremony??
As I would guess, we had an option while we submit our Nationalization applications with any council offices, there should be a privilege to select other council offices also for ceremonies..

I'm not sure of this ..some senior members on board can comment on this

Titanic999, here is what is on Southwark's council website about it.
Can I have my ceremony in another borough other than Southwark?
Yes. You will need to contact the Home Office which will instruct us to return the certificate so they can forward it to the borough concerned.

That takes to much time to rearrange and things can go wrong
I'd just ask for the next available date or book a private ceremony

Thank you for all your advise. I rang the local council up and asked nicely if there was any chance to have it sooner as I was worried about the waiting time. As luck would have it, they have had a few cancellations and I have been booked in for next week!!!
