Name change on BRP

Post by EMC2 » Mon Aug 29, 2011 8:49 am

I am applying to change my wife surname to my surname on her passport. Do we need to apply for her British spouse visa again as she will have different surname? Or Do we need to inform HO about her name change. She was issued visa in Feb 2011 on Biometric card (not endorsed on her passport).

I don't want to make things complicated when it comes to her ILR.

All your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for you reply Case.

So this mean I just need to go to embassy and update her passprot with my surname? What about her visa issued on that plactic Biometric card. This will show different name. Does it make any difference while travelling?

Kind regards

You must tell us as soon as you can if:
you change your name (for example, because of marriage or by deed poll);
you change your gender, legally or permanently;
you change your nationality; or
your facial appearance changes significantly.

If you change any personal details listed above or any details shown on your biometric residence permit, you must apply for a new permit within 3 months using application form BRP(RC). If you do not do this, you may have to pay a financial penalty of up to £1,000 or we may shorten your permission to stay. You can download the application form and guidance from the right side of this page.

Thanks Vinny. I should have checked biometrics...instead of passport.
