Waiting for EU-1 Residency and wanting to leave ireland!

Hello! I am american and my husband is german. I have been waiting 5 long, long months for my residency card.

I want to travel back to the USA as soon as possible. Can I leave while waiting for my residency??? Will they let me back in Ireland with just a marriage certificate??? Or if i get my approval letter while out of the country....can I have my husband mail it to me...then show that on entry??? I find this info near impossible to find, and I am dreading calling the GNIB. They are near impossible to reach and when you do talk to someone they are less then polite.
I currently only hold that temporary 1 month stamp given at arrival to Ireland. Was told my confirmation letter from the DOJ for EU-1 would be enough to prove that I am in fact legally here waiting for a response. (which just seems shady to me) I WILL BE TRAVELLING ALONE, NOT WITH MY EU SPOUSE!

If it matters, I did not arrive on a tourist stamp or anything weird like that.

You have a confirmation letter for your EU1 application? And you already have your passport?

They certainly can not refuse to let you back in, especially if you can prove you are married to a German who is living and working in Ireland. Be sure that you carry a cellphone and have him meet your flight when you arrive.

You should also print out and carry a copy of Directive 2004/38/EC with you. See especially Article 5:

4. Where a Union citizen, or a family member who is not a
national of a Member State, does not have the necessary travel
documents or, if required, the necessary visas, the Member
State concerned shall, before turning them back, give such
persons every reasonable opportunity to obtain the necessary
documents or have them brought to them within a reasonable
period of time or to corroborate or prove by other means that
they are covered by the right of free movement and residence.
