Sending original passport for first time passport application

Post by kunduz » Mon Sep 29, 2025 1:25 pm

Hi all,

After naturalization, first time passport application now refers the original passport or national identity card to be sent with the other documents. However, as you may have already know, last year it was possible to send PSC (Public Service Card) only, so original passport wasn't really necessary to send if you had PSC.

However, this year required documents seems to be slightly changed and original - country of origin - passport mentioned to be sent in addition to another photo ID, like PSC and/or driving license.

I also talked to DFA agents (via webchat) and they confirmed that. Anything changed in the last year, anbody applied to first time passport in 2025 may be?

Thanks,

Passport is mandatory. Naturalisation certificates no longer have pictures. Staff were having to spend way to long in trying to verify whether a paper copy is genuine or not, so they have stopped doing that and simply demanding everyone to send in the original.
