Identity Proof Score Card question?

Post by brktpn » Sun Nov 30, 2025 7:10 pm

Hello folks, I hope you are well. I have a simple question, and I would like to get your opinion.

In October 2025, I applied for Citizenship via naturalisation. (Non-EU, 5 Years Residency, Stamp 1 & 4)

For the "Identity Proof Score Card", I submitted a Certified colour copy of the biometric page of the passport. (150 points.) And that is going to expire in May 2026.

I don't know, just because of that panic mood, do I have to renew my passport and inform the Immigration office?

My concern is, they are going to review the application, god knows when, and they say, "Well, your passport is going to expire almost". As if I applied right before the expiration date...

I don’t think so - the ‘identification’ can only be at the time that the application was made. If it was ‘in-date’ at that time you should be fine. Note also that they accept Irish passports that are out of date for up to a certain period as well so it’s reasonably flexible.

That is not to say that you should not renew your existing passport when it expires. As Ireland accepts dual-nationality there is no Irish penalty for so doing.
