Citizenship application based on Marriage

Post by tarakino » Wed Apr 13, 2011 3:54 pm

Hi

My wife wants to apply for naturalisation based on 5 years work permit.
I have already an application for myself and I hope I get it soon (file with minister since Feb11).
My question is: shall my wife apply now or would it better for her to wait until I become Irish and then she can apply as spouse of Irish?
I am asking this since I've heard that soon you would need to wait for 8 years instead of 5 before applying and of course my wife wants to apply before that.

Thanks for your help

If I was her, I'd apply now. The wait is at least 2-3 years so she might as well get in the queue now. No harm trying anyway, and if you do get yours presumably she could write to them and let them know that your status has changed, although I'm not sure it would speed things up.
The 8 years you mention is for the WCATT stamp, not citizenship.
