I applied in October 2018 and application received in London on 8 October. Application was sent to Dublin on 6 Secember 2018 for processing. I’ve not chased it since then just trying to think positive 😊
How did you find out when it went to Dublin? I applied September, had its receipt acknowledged a few days later in London and then have not heard any more.

I did get through to the webchat week before last (luckily!) and was just told times are now 9-12 months from date received. I did ask if that was in London or Dublin and was told Dublin. So, will be interesting to see what your delivery is :)

I also asked about and was told that everyone will get an email.

But, I'm still not sure if this is all just the script the webchatters were using. I got no details about my own application other than he confirmed it had been received.

I rang the embassy in London one day and just managed to get through to a helpful person who gave me an update! What do you mean when they say everyone will get an email? I’m expecting nothing else to be delivered so I’m very hopeful but will probably be disappointed when I go to collect at 7am tomorrow!

You will be disappointed if you are expecting your FBR cert when you had only applied in December.. sorry. It probably just a letter from your mother-in-law informing you that she is coming to live with you. Hahaha

Just that, everyone is now supposed to get an email before the certificate. Some here have reported getting one, others not. But, as a previous poster suggested the process has changed so that everyone gets one, I thought I'd ask. And he said that's the case. We'll see.

They also said that I would be added to the FBR and should expect an Email in December or January at the latest.

I’d be surprised also if this is your FBR certificate. I have almost identical timeline to you via London and the email in December saying it had reached Dublin but nothing since.

Then again, I’m sure these people in Dublin do a pick n mix/lottery of which application they approve next and send out so it may well be your FBR certificate despite me and others here having the same/earlier timelines and still waiting!

None of this process makes sense or is consistent whatsoever. I note the DFA have finally got round to updating their website to say webchat is no longer and option. Still says applications take 6 months though, despite them telling anyone here that contacts them that it could be up to 12!

this is what the DFA has posted about the FBR

Registering a foreign birth

At present it takes approximately 6 months to process a completed Foreign Birth Registration application. However, due to the complex nature of the Foreign Birth Registration, it may take up to 12 months to process an application. If you are an expectant parent applying to be entered on the Foreign Birth Register, you should mark this clearly on your application.

Your birth can be entered on the Foreign Births Register if you are eligible to become an Irish citizen. Find out what you need to do before you begin your online application.

To be fair, the website says applications take 6 months but ‘can take up to 12 months’ due to the ‘complex nature’ of some cases.

So effectively the DFA are saying that all the cases have suddenly become ‘complex’ hence why we are all waiting beyond 6 months?

Poor/no existing communication is the worst part of this process. Hope it does improve in future

I've been to the post office....it wasn't the certificate! Back to waiting..... I see so many mixed timelines with these registrations, who knows when I will actually get an email or something in the post!

It has taken them a full 2 months now just for printing of my physical FBR certificate. Essentially, it just amounts to an A4 piece of paper with a stamped official seal.

Looking back at other people's posted timescales, I got through the approval stage reasonably quickly (4 months 27 days) but I have not seen anyone else post wait times of 2 months between FBR entry and receipt of the actual certificate.

Certainly, it is hard to argue that efficiency has experienced any increase in this respect.

Michael - Glad to see you having a laugh & not cancelling your application. Hang in there...can't be much longer!
If they are approving a batch at the end of March like I was told it will be 9 months for me. I could've had a baby in that time and jumped the queue!! LOL

Alas, If this experience has taught us anything, it is that is can be much longer. I remember telling Michael when I was added to the register that he would be done in a few weeks. I was very wrong on that.

Nowadays, I think the best strategy is just to assume there will be hefty delays. That way the disappointment seems less acute.

Canceling the application makes no sense. As Churchill said "if you're going through hell, keep going"

My application was received January 16th. Straight forward application with no complexities. I double triple quadruple checked to make sure I included everything I needed.

2 months have already flown by because I didn’t really think much of it until this morning. From looking through these posts some of you post multiple times a day. Of course it’s going to feel like it’s taking forever. Ever heard the expression a watched kettle never boils?

I suggest the rest of you people do the same. Go about your lives and in no time you’ll be Irish!

Hello zippy,

Checked today and it said printing and my issue date is this Monday 11th March! I’m not too sure how much longer this process should take - did you have any luck?

Hi danmur,
I'm delighted to say that my passport arrived this morning! When my passport had reached "dispatched" status on 6/3/19, I was given an ANPOST tracking number. However, this was never recognised by the ANPOST website tracking service. As it would have been handed to Royal Mail at some point, I even tried putting the tracking number into their system, but it wasn't recognised there either.

All was revealed when the postie delivered it this morning, and I saw that it had a sticker on the mailing bag which read "No signature required" So not a very secure service!
Hopefully yours won't be too far behind.
Best wishes,
zippy

Hi James,

I have some more news .... my passport arrived this morning! The tracking number I was given was not recognised on either ANPOST or Royal Mail. So my final timeline is:

Application sent via Passport Express - 21/1/19
Received by them 25/1/19
Processing 5/2/19 - 3/3/19 - estimated issue date - 15/2/19
Printing - 4/3/19
Dispatched - 6/3/19
Arrived - 11/3/19.

It arrived in a mailing bag with a sticker which reads "No signature required"
Hopefully yours will be with you soon
Best wishes,
Zippy

Fantastic news Zippy! Mine was dispatched on Friday so hopefully have it either tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm having the same problem re the An Post tracking number, clearly it's a common issue.

Thanks and enjoy your passport!

Hi all. Question re FBR delivery. Does anyone know what postal service is used to deliver the package of original certificates and newly printed FBR back to you? Is it Royal Mail / an post or another courier like fedex?
Cheers!

I received mine through Royal Mail Special Delivery; I think my FBR certificate was posted to the London Embassy then posted onto me from there, though I think I received mine before the processes changed so might not be accurate any longer.

I have heard “a watched clock doesn’t move”.

I understand your point and I had been as such during the initial process. For me, Its not when it arrives but not knowing when it will- it what is getting to me.

Hi all, (hopefully) quick question:

I'm planning on registering on the FBR. It says that I need a 'notarised' copy of my passport, but lists a number of entities who can do it that aren't Notary Publics. Does it need to be actually notarised, or can it just be certified by a bank/post office/etc.?

Thanks all!

Never mind. It actually said 'certified/notarised'. Answered my own question...

First time post

Submitted application to London embassy on November 4th. Delivery via Royal Mail confirmed 4th November.

Received this email from DFAT today:

“Your application and supporting documentation for your application for Foreign Birth Registration has now been received. Applications can take up to 6 months to process and we will be in touch with you should we require any additional documentation or clarifications.”

Does that mean six months from now, or November??
