Biometric residence permit needed again for tier 2 general?

Post by grif-fin » Fri Jul 19, 2013 12:56 pm

Hi all

I have already done the biometric residence permit when I was applying for PSW visa, now that I want to apply for my T2G I cannot find the photocopy of my biometric residence permit, do I need to do it again or does UKBA already have the information in their system?

Any help is appreaciated!

You will need to send it in with your application. If you had a biometric residence permit, it is like the size of a credit card. If you no longer have the card, you should report it as lost. They do not want photocopies of the BRP....

Many thanks for your reply physicskate!

I should find it somehow then not much time left for my visa expiry...

Could you tell me the difference between unrestricted CoS and restricted CoS if you are aware of it?

Cheers!

unrestricted CoS is issued if you are applying from within the UK. Restricted CoS are issued by an employer seeking entry clearance for their employee. These are subject to quotas (although this has never been reached) and are only issued to employers after a monthly meeting which takes place on the 11th of each month.

If you are switching from PSW, you should apply from within the UK and be issued an Unrestricted CoS.

Great unrestricted CoS is what my company is applying for.

Any idea of how long does it usually take to after applying for the license until the license is granted? also how long does it take for them to assign the unrestricted CoS for me?

Many Thanks!

I don't know current processing times - but I think UKBA aims to process license applications in 4-6 weeks. After they are issued an allocation of certificates, it takes 20-30 minutes to assign the certificate to you. The company should have all information at hand like your personal details and SoC code, salary etc.... when they fill out the certificate. You will then be assigned a number. The certificate itself is an e-document, so you only need a copy of the salary details, etc, that the company put into the certificate; you will not be issued with the certificate itself.

Thanks again physicskate!

Since my situation is a bit more complicated as my old company which didn't have license was taken over buy another company which has the license and they said we have the name of the old company added to the coming license I am worried of after assigning the CoS to me in case they put the wrong information which doesn't match my visa application and I get refused after my visa expiry can I then cancel the current CoS and assign new one even though my visa would be expired by then?

Hope that made some sense

Not sure I entirely understand your chain of events, so please forgive me if I have misunderstood anything.

Ok, so the only company you need to be worrying about is your new one. You cannot apply for your Tier 2 without already having been assigned a CoS. You've said they already have a sponsor license?

So Your new company must have an allocation of certificates and assign one to you. If they already have an allocation, this can be done at any time. Now, even.

Once you have been assigned a CoS, you fill in your application and include the information from your CoS. Ask your employer what they have filled in so that salary, etc... matches exactly. Once you complete your application and get your required docs together, you then send your application to UKBA (or whatever they call it these days). They will then send you a letter telling you to attend a biometrics appointment. After you give your biometrics, you will be notified of their decision about your visa.
