Switch from Tier 2 General to Tier 2 Dependent

Post by Sal982 » Sat Aug 20, 2016 12:23 pm

Hello,
I have a query regarding tier 2 visa,

I (and my 4 years old son as well) have Tier 2 dependent visas as my wife (main applicant) has Tier 2 General. Now I got a job and I want to switch to Tier 2 general from my home country.
My question, what will happen for my wife and my son? Should my wife switch to tier 2 dependent at the same time when I apply for Tier 2 general OR she can continue with her current situation?
I.e. Is it possible to be both holding Tier 2 general (given both are sponsored)?

Many thanks for your support.

You wife can stay on Tier-2 General. You son might have been on a T2-G dependent Visa and this should be fine.

Should my wife switch to tier 2 dependent at the same time when I apply for Tier 2 general OR she can continue with her current situation?
There is no need for her to switch. She can continue in her current T2G

Yes

Many thanks for this useful reply.
Any advantage/disadvantage if we go through holding two Tier2G Visas?

Also, I recently gained my PhD, is there a way to apply from inside the UK?

Kindest regards

Yes, once you return to the UK with your own Tier 2 General. Your son will also have to apply with your wife.

This will reset both of your clocks towards ILR.
