Switching from Tier 5 to tier 2 visa for doctors

Post by Lmadhavan » Mon Aug 28, 2017 8:14 am

Good day,

I am an Anaesthesiologist who has done basic medical schooling in India and Fellowship in Anaesthesia from Ireland (FCARCSI 2007). I was working outside Europe after that and now have been selected for a Fellowship in UK(2yr) sponsored by the RCOA. Since I am bringing my family along and putting the kids in school in UK, I would like to switch to a Tier 2 visa after my Fellowship . Since I am a postgraduate doctor, is it possible to change over? If possible, kindly advise what is the procedure.
Thank you for your time.
Warm regards
L

Do you already have an HO approved Tier 2 Sponsor?

You need to apply from home country as far as I understand as switching from Tier 5 to Tier 2 is not possible.

Thank you for your reply. I don't have a Tier 2 sponsor but, even if I get one, it's not possible to change to Tier 2 from within UK right? So I will have to leave the country and reapply😕
What about the kids? They are on my dependant visa.
It will be in the middle of the school year. Will I have to withdraw them from school? Or change their visa into student visa?

They can apply to switch to Tier 2 dependent visa within the UK as long as they still have a valid visa to do so. If there visa is close to expiring, they will have to leave and apply from home country.

They cannot change to 'student visa' within the UK either, they will also have to apply from home country.
