Tier 2 Extension - 8 weeks lapsed no communication

As the title suggests, made my application for a tier 2 visa extension 8 weeks ago through the standard service.

I've had no correspondence from the Home Office, nor has my sponsor.

Does anyone know what the next steps are? I was under the impression that the HO is obligated to write to you to advise of any delays or requests for further info within the 8 week period.

Naturally very anxious about this, particularly as I have Christmas travel plans with family.

Any info appreciated.
