CoS expiry later than visa expiry

Hello I hope you can help. My CoS expires 2 weeks before my visa expires. My employer will continue to sponsor me for another 2 years after this. I know I can apply for a new visa 3 months before it expires, does my employer need to issue a new CoS from the day after the old one expires, or from the day after my visa expires?
