HMRC Tax Amendment and Tier 2 General Visa (ILR)

Post by SK5951 » Mon Oct 03, 2022 2:42 pm

Hello All

I am currently in UK under TIER 2 General/Skilled Worker Visa. I will be eligible to apply ILR next year. Having a query with regards to tax return amendment (Self Assessment). Please can you advise.

To Summarise, I have submitted a tax return (Self assessment) form for the year 20/21 earlier this year (Jan 2022) to claim a refund of my over paid tax (as my one off employee benefit’s was incorrectly added to tax code). However I have made a mistake while submitting this tax return form. I did not include the tax adjustment (100 GBP) from previous year while submitting the tax return for 20/21. I have just mentioned the Income and Tax details from P60.

As per self assessment portal, I do have 12 months time to amend the incorrect tax returns (31 Jan 2023) for 20/21 returns. I have corrected the same and submitted it to reflect the correct refund amount.

I have read in many forums/places that tax discrepancies can impact ILR application. Please can you advise if my above mistake will impact my ILR application.

Thank you.
