Priority service Skilled worker visa

Post by Thanks » Mon Feb 16, 2026 1:46 pm

Hello,
I have applied for a skilled worker visa (switching from Graduate route) under priority service with biometric completed end of last week. I got a response from Home office today stating my case is complex and they require additional time to make a decision. The application was made via a solicitor.
I am here with 3 dependents and our current leave is expiring on 09 Mar 2026. The application for skilled worker was made only for the main applicant under priority service with expectation that dependents application will be made once main applicants visa is approved.

Questions.
1. The communication from home office didnt request any additional information/documents. In this case, how long can they take to make decision? Can they request additional information after further review?

2. What is the option available for dependents if the decision is not recieved before the expiry of current visa? can they apply as dependents while main applicants decision is still pending? If so, until what date should we wait with hope of decision?

3. If the decision is refusal before the leave expires, can we apply for dependents while we submit a admin review (or appeal)?

4. In the worst case, if the appeal is also refused, how long to we get to leave the country? considering kids are in school, etc.

Thanks

The priority service is not guaranteed. If UKVI need more information, they should contact you (or your solicitor) within the standard timeframe to provide a decision under the Skilled worker route - 8 weeks now. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/visa-proces ... ide-the-uk

Your dependants need to apply to switch before expiry date of their current visas. It doesn't matter if your application is still undecided, otherwise they'll be overstayers.

Unsure why you're thinking your application will be refused, you'll need to apply for AR, etc. Without more details it'll be difficult to advise. If you're concerned about the outcome of your application or some specific elements not mentioned here perhaps you need to speak to your solicitor who should be able to advise.
