Tier 5 to Register for Citizenship

Post by indigojoy » Sun Jan 10, 2016 9:17 am

Hi,

I'm currently on a Tier 5 Temporary Work Visa that expires in September. I now want to register for Citizenship which I believe I can do as my Dad is British (parents weren't married when I was born in Australia so it did not automatically pass on to me etc etc.).

The processing time on Gov.uk is stated at around 6 months. Do you think it's likely my application will be processed in time? If not is there anyway I can get a bridging visa so I can continue working and living in the UK?

Thanks very much!

How did your father obtain his British citizenship? As you are over the age of 18 I believe you will have submit a UKF application. CR001 knows more about this route and there is currently a thread running on the forum. http://www.immigrationboards.com/britis ... 91617.html

6 months may be over-optimistic and a Tier-5 visa cannot be extended from within the UK apart from when switching to a spouse settlement visa.
Here's the link to the UKF application info.

Come back if you have any questions. Note the requirement to submit evidence of biological father.

You should have applied sooner.

Try and get your application submitted as soon as possible. Some are coming back as approved within a couple of months. If you have all the supporting documents ready, apply.

You can also apply for this from your home country, so not a lost cause if you don't have time etc.

You will also need to submit a copy of your father's passport.
