Is Graduate Diploma in Law(GDL) exempt from the 5 years CAP?

Post by Moderntate » Tue May 07, 2013 2:43 pm

I did my degree(level 6) 3 years and Acca(level 7) 2 years. So under the 5 years cap rule, I won't be able to apply any sort of student visa extensions unless PhD.

However someone suggested me that I can do a course such like Graduate Diploma in Law(GDL), which is not included in the NQF. And I looked at UKBA website it says:
The time that you can spend studying at or above degree level will be limited to 5 years. However the following courses are exempt from the 5 year study limit and will not be included when the amount of time you have spent studying at or above degree level is calculated,regardless of when they were studied:
• where you are studying a course at or above degree level in one of the following
subject areas:
• Architecture;
• Medicine;
• Dentistry;
• Law, where the applicant has completed a course at degree level in the UK and is progressing to:
• a law conversion course validated by the Joint Academic Stage Board;

• the Legal Practice Course; or
• the Bar Professional Training Course.
• Veterinary Medicine & Science; or
• Music at a music college that is a member of Conservatoires UK (CUK).

So from above am I likely to grant a vsa for a GDL course? How am I going to show academic progress? I have already being studying at level 7.

Does it say anything about GDL? Graduate Diploma is officially a Level 6 course and its a complete UK qualification. LPC and BPTC are totally different things like practical training to already qualified people.

BTW, that 'someone' always give stupid advices to students. :p

The GDL is a law conversion course validated by the joint academic stage board.
