Dear Members,
I would be grateful for guidance regarding my current situation.
I am a Master’s student who received a resit in certain modules. My resit examinations are scheduled for April 2026 and require in-person attendance in the UK. However, my Student visa was due to expire on 5 February 2026, before the resit date.
The university informed me that they could not issue a new CAS while I was inside the UK and advised me to return to my home country to apply for a new Student visa from overseas. They also mentioned that issuing a CAS is not guaranteed. The reason given was that there was no required attendance between my visa expiry date and the resit period.
Following this advice:
I left the UK before my visa expired.
I provided proof of departure (boarding pass and exit stamp).
I prepared and maintained the required maintenance funds for 28 consecutive days.
I also confirmed that I am prepared to pay the visa application fee and IHS fee.
On 4 February, the university emailed me stating that my CAS would be issued within 24 hours. However, later on the same day, they sent another email saying they are awaiting new annual CAS allocation from the Home Office before they can issue the CAS.
After a follow-up email on 9 feb, they asked me to wait until next week, which has been passed now. Today is 17 February, and I have not received any further update.
I am concerned because:
My funds have already been held for 28 days, and delays may affect the timing of my application.
I am unsure how long CAS allocation approvals normally take.
I do not know whether this is a normal administrative delay or something I should be worried about.
My questions are:
Is it common for universities to run out of CAS allocation at this time of year?
How long does it usually take for additional CAS allocation to be approved?
Is there anything further I should be doing at this stage?
Could the university later refuse to issue the CAS despite previously indicating it would be issued?
I would greatly appreciate any advice from members who have experienced similar situations.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.
