Student illness - defer semester

Post by rk_2011 » Sun Sep 25, 2011 8:28 pm

Dear all,

Please help me with this query: Relative on a tier-4 visa, second semester of MBA starts tomorrow and ends in Jan 2012, have come down with an illness that requires weekly visits to the hospital to receive a very strong dose of a medicine. The medicine is so strong that it makes her weak and she is unable to live a normal life for the rest of the week, for example going to uni., studying, etc. Medication finishes in mid Dec. 2011.

Visa expires June 2012, we have a letter from the hospital and NHS consultant doctor treating her. Under these circumstances, can she defer her studies until Jan. 2012 and stay in UK continuing her treatment? If so, what is the process of notifying UKBA? If deferring of studies is allowed, she will need an extension beyond Jun. 2012 to complete her studies.

Best,
RK2011.

She needs to speak to speak to her university about the possibility of intermitting. It may not be possible to intermit until January, she may have to come back next year instead. If she intermits then this will be reported to the UKBA and her visa is likely to be curtailed.
