Clearing when i entered the UK

Post by esagala » Wed Oct 12, 2011 6:26 pm

Hello,
I arrived in the UK on Sunday the 18th of September to start a MSc degree. I traveled from Orlando florida to Dublin, Ireland and then to Heathrow with Aer Lingus Airline. When i arrived in the UK, i collected my luggage and walked straight out to the Pickup Area. I am a bit puzzled because i did not have to go through Customs or Immigration. Nobody looked at my student visa and i did not received a stamp in my passport stating my arrival date in the UK.
While at the airport i called the immigration section and they explained to me that since i came through ireland, it is considered a domestic flight and this is normal. I came through the UK and Irish arrivals section. I tried to explain to her that i was travelled from the states and did not clear in ireland, i was just intransit. So i should be considered an international arrival, but she said that it was alright. While this may be so, i still would like some clarification. I do not want this to come back and haunt me in the future, that there is no record of my arrival in UK. I would just like to know if i should have cause to worry. Is this normal?

Thanks for your responses

Nothing strange, because you entered UK from within the Common Travel Area.

Do you have the boarding card still? Or the plane ticket? If so, keep them in safe possession - just in case!
