Naturalised returning to UK

Hello guys... a question please.
if someone became naturalised as a british citizen today and travled abroad next day.
when he returns to the UK later using his foreign passport, how does he explain the situation to the border officer?

I guess your ILR card becomes invalid when you become a British citizen.
So do you need to take the citizenship certificate with you or just quote its reference\id number?
