Applying for British Passport with an expired foreign Pass

Hi Folks
I'm not at this stage yet as I haven't received my naturalisation approval yet, but I would like to ask ahead a question. I would really appreciate experience, story, etc from our fellow member...
can I apply for british passport with an expired foreign passport as a proof of ID ? I hold 2 passport, one expired and the other one still valid. the expired one has not been cut at the edge.
I might be going for holiday, and I would like to hand my expired passport rather than my valid passport.

The form as for applicants to send their current passport. If you have a holiday planned, apply for your British passport when you have returned and you can submit your current passport. There is no time frame within which you have to apply for a passport.
