Urgent help required - refusal

Post by freestyler » Wed Jun 04, 2014 4:02 pm

Hi all, I have received a letter from the home office stating that they have refused my application because of the english language requirement. I have an IGCSE qualification with an A* in English as a second language and grade 1 oral/aural mark. This is on the list of acce[ptable english qualfications on their website.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... _tests.pdf

I have confirmed with Cambridge International exams that the syllabus code when I took the exam in 2001 was 0510 as it still is today and also I am studying - in my fianl year at a university here in the UK. I really cant see where I have gone wrong. Can anyone please help me i.e how to put the appeal together etc? I want to make sure I get it right. Thanks

You cannot appeal a refused citizenship application. All you can do is ask for a reconsideration and state the grounds you are asking for.

It might help if you post the exact wording of the refusal letter and also what your immigration status has been in the UK.

Hello, I am married to a British citizen, however, we are currently separated. I was given ILR in 2007. It states that the IGCSE submitted is not a sufficient application. I submitted an IGCSE qualification from the Cambridge International Examinations board which is on page 20 of their approved english tests sheet.

Exact wording: We wrote to you requesting documents in support of your application for BC. As we appear not to have received satisfactory documentation, we have considered the application on the information available. Please not that the submitted IGCSE is not a sufficient qualification.

I submitted IGCSE English as a second language from CIE where I got an A* with Grade 1 (Oral/aural). Page 20 on the gov.uk website :

I am doing a Biosciences degree here in England and going into my final year.

Pls post the text of the refusal letter.

Also, does your IGCSE test cover level B1?

Hi
The wording is : We wrote to you requesting documents in support of your application for BC. As we appear not to have received satisfactory documentation, we have considered the application on the information available. Please not that the submitted IGCSE is not a sufficient qualification. As the secretary of state cannot be satisfied that you meet the KOLL in the uk requirements based upon the application your application has been refused.

Cambridge
IGCSE English
as a Second
Language
(Syllabus 0510
& 0511) B1 The minumum requirements are an E and a D and grade 3 in Oral

I got an A* and grade 1 in oral

I hope this helps.

Request a reconsideration if you feel you have met the requirement of
Certificate showing that you have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification;

Was your IGSCE part of school or a stand alone course you did?

My daughter for example did IGCSE first language English as part of her GCSE's in high school, but as far as I know, it is not recognised for ILR/naturalisation applications level B1 requirements.

There have been many members asking if their GCSE english is sufficient and if I recall correctly, it is not.

I registered at the British Council in Lusaka, Zambia to sit the exam in 2001. What would the difference be? There is no stipulation on the website if there is a difference. I registered to sit the exam on my own along with 4 other exams and not with any particular school. Im really confused now.

So did you get their letter? What did you answer to them?

Hi, they asked for an English qualification ( IGCSE) and I sent them my certificate which they have listed on page 20 of this document :

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... _tests.pdf

Am I getting something wrong; is there another IGCSE other than that stipulated and run by Cambridge International Examinations? It also said that that qualification has no expiry date.
