Referee for Citizenship - Manager of VAT registered company

Hello Forum,

I am working for a MNC IT company . As I understand, a Director or Manager of VAT registered company can sign as one of the referee. In that case, will reference/signature of my immediate manager - who knows me from last 8 years - is acceptable ?
