Hi,
In terms of documentation:
IELTS - check the latest list in the guidance if this is still acceptable for BC application. A number of changes were made within the past month. Senior moderators/other posters with this experience could help.
Self employed - ring up HMRC for SA302 (personal annual tax returns) for past 10 years if possible. Have you received HMRC tax documents informing you of your self employed tax status/VAT status etc? Bring them along just in case. Check your employment contracts you have with agents/clients on start/end dates.
Write down all your days out of UK during the 5+1 year period on the application form.
If you have convictions/CCJ/Driving offenses of any kind, married/divorce status, read the guidance carefully on what's required.
If your application is straightforward, there aren't many docs to submit really compared to ILR- the guidance is quite clear on what you need to provide.
Recommended to use NCS over self posting - NCS takes copies of original docs (they take original Life in Uk Test), and you get to keep your passport for travel and your docs. Any NCS council is fine, doesnt have to be your home council.
Note - for the very first day of your 5 year+ 1 year ILR period you are using for your BC application, make sure you were already physically in the UK. I applied 3 weeks after I qualify for BC to meet this requirement as I was on holiday during the 3 weeks 5 + 1 years ago.
