Travelling after naturalisation

Post by Kcutie18 » Thu Dec 31, 2015 4:22 pm

Hello! Ive applied for British citizenship and last week I had a phone call telling me my application has been successful and I'm waiting for a letter to attend a citizenship ceremony. But 4 months ago I booked a trip and the trip is in 2 weeks time. I need to know am I allowed to travel before the ceremony? I'm holding a Malaysian passport and Malaysia won't allow dual citizenship. But I have my passport and my indefinite leave to remain certificate. I thought I'm not British until I attend the ceremony and meanwhile I am still Malaysian right?
Will I get in trouble using with my Malaysian passport?
Thank you

You are correct in thinking you will not become a UK citizen until the day of your oath-taking ceremony when you receive your naturalisation certificate.
So you are good to go.

Note You need to have your ceremony within (I think) 3 months of your official letter. (The letter should advise you of that anyway).
