Got PR - when to apply for citizenship

Post by GeorgeDuncan » Sat Jun 25, 2016 1:12 pm

Hi Guys,

I am an EEA citizen and I applied for a document certifying my permanent residence on 2nd of Nov 2015. One week later, on 9th of Nov I received an email from Home Office to confirm that they received my application and it will be considered. After nearly 6 months, on 15th of April 2016 I found the document certifying permanent residence in my mail box. I know that I must wait one year before to apply for British citizenship via naturalization but I don't know when this year should start: when I applied for OR when I received the document in my mail box?
When I will fill in the form should I start my history from the date above 5 OR 6 years backwards?

Many Thanks,
George

It should start from the date you acquired PR by having exercised your Treaty rights over a 5 year period. The PR card is only formal confirmation that it was acquired. When did you complete your 5 years?

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.
