When would BRP Card becomes inactive

Post by DarshitMehta » Wed Sep 21, 2016 2:55 pm

I have applied for citizenship and received a letter yesterday that my application is approved.
However, I got appointment for ceremonial oath by end of November.
I need to travel outside country for business purpose this week.
Can I travel and enter UK again on ILR BRP card? Validity of my BRP card is upto 2024.

You are only British once you attend your ceremony and receive your certificate. Until then, you are a foreign national with an ILR BRP card and free to travel.

Thanks for confirming it.
when I dialled the home office number, lady there asked me to inform Heathrow airport (from where I am entering country) and inform some one from Entry Clearance team.

It is not necessary, especially if you are travelling before your ceremony. HO call centre are well known for giving incorrect advice.

Your ILR BRP is valid as you are NOT British yet if you travel before your ceremony. No need to inform or explain anything to IO at Heathrow.

Thanks a lot.
last query. I and my wife both has applied for citizenship and applications for both has been approved.
She would be in Uk and she is planning to go for ceremony next week. I have book ceremony once I am back in UK.
While I was on visa she was my dependant. But I believe once she has got iLR she is no more dependant on me and she taking ceremonial oath before me does not impact me in any case.
Can you please share your thoughts on this?

Many Thanks In advance.

Her application and ceremony is completely separate to yours. She is not dependent on you anymore and what she does has no impact on you.
