Is BRP required to apply for Naturalisation

Post by ITGraduate » Tue Oct 17, 2017 10:13 am

Hello All,

I am posting this on behalf of my friend.

Is BRP required to apply for Naturalisation? My friend has ILR vignette on his old expired passport. HE received his ILR 10 years ago

Is it mandatory to have Bio-metric Residence Permit before you apply for Naturalisation ?

Can he apply with for Naturalisation with his ILR stamped on his old expired passport?

Thanks

No, submitting old passport with ILR should be fine.

No. It is mandatory to seek employment though.

Yes.

Thank you CR001 for your super fast response. Very helpful

Once he applies for his naturalisation and receives his acknowledgement, can he seek employment with the acknowledgement letter and his ILR stamp without a BRP

Cheers

Probably difficult as employers now require a BRP to prove right to work.

sorry CR001, another follow up query on your reply.

once he applies for his BRP, he will receive an acknowledgement from HO. Can he start to work with that?

Because if he applies for Naturalisation it will take up to 6 months and it will be difficult for him to be jobless

Thanks a million

He needs a BRP card for employment. Many employers won't take the risk since HO change the BRP requirement two years ago.

He can apply for a BRP at the premium service centre and then it takes 7-10 days to be delivered, but it is very expensive, £590 just for the appointment plus the fee for the application (NTL or TOC).
