British citizenship for child from home country

Post by vvenu88 » Tue Jun 05, 2018 2:34 pm

Hi All,
I have a typical question about dependent visa/ British passport for my child. Here it is.
I currently hold tier 2 general Visa and I am eligible for ILR from 25 December 2018, I have 1.8 year old child who does not hold any UK visa at the moment and only have indian passport. My family is planning to go to home country India in November for around 3-4 months, assuming that I get ILR in Jan 2019, can I apply British passport to my son directly from India in Jan 2019?
If not, what are the options I have got.

Thanks.

Only a British citizen can apply directly for a British passport. Your son is NOT British.

You have to register him as British on form MN1 first. He will lose his Indian citizenship once you register him as British.
